OCALI Parent ManualOhio's Parent Guide to Autism Spectrum Disorder 

Created by parents for parents, this manual provides an overview of the world of autism spectrum disorders (ASD). It was developed by Ohio parents of individuals with ASD who have a broad range of experience with interventions, resources, and services.

 

Autism Strategies in Action

This on line autism training series is offered free of charge to residents of Ohio.  It includes a 1 1/2 hour introductory module, The Many Faces of Autism, presenting information about unique characteristics of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), including social-communication, restricted interests and patterns of behavior, sensory, cognition and information processing, and emotional regulation. Five simple strategies are introduced that may be used anytime, anywhere with young children, students, and adults with ASD.  There are also three 12-hour modules covering three age groups -- toddler and preschool, school age and transition age.  Visit www.ocali.org for information about this and other resources on autism.

Guide to Parent Rights in Special Education

This Ohio Department of Education Resource provides parents with information about the Individuals with Disabilites Education Improvement Act (IDEIA) of 2004 and help in navigating the IEP and ETR process.  You can find it in multiple languages here.

Medicaid Waivers

Waivers are one way to pay for the services needed by a person with disabilities.  The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities offers three types of waivers:  the Individual Options Waiver, the SELF Waiver and the Level One Waiver.  Enrollment in the waiver program starts with your County Board of Developmental Disabilities.  Information about waivers can be found at  the Ohio DODD website.

Technology, Toy and Medical Equipment Lending Libraries

The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council has developed an interactive map showing the locations of lending libraries for Assistive Technology, Medical Equipment and Adaptive Toys across the state.  You can access this map to find a library near you by clicking here.
