DAFEAT is excited to announce our

"Dealing wtih Challenging Behaviors"
with Dr. Carl Sundberg.
Saturday, September 18, 2010, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
(lunch on your own)
Workshop with Dr. Carl Sundberg
Location:
The Children's Medical Center of Dayton
One Children's Plaza, Dayton, OH 45404
Auditorium (Lower Level)
Participation certificates with contact hours listed will be presented to all workshop participants at the conclusion of this workshop.
Workshop participants will learn:
1) To use the procedures of behavior analysis including reinforcement, shaping, differential reinforcement, extinction, and punishment to decrease challenging behaviors.

2) That all challenging behaviors are maintained through reinforcement.

3) That in order to most effectively change the child's challenging behavior, you must determine what reinforcement is maintaining the behavior.

4) That in order to determine what reinforcement is maintaining the behavior you must conduct a functional assessment.  That is, you must clearly identify:

● The behavior (of interest)
● The current consequence of that behavior (what maintains that behavior)
● The antecedents or conditions which the behavior is likely to occur.

This is known as an ABC assessment (Antecedent-Behavior-Consequence).

5) The type of intervention that is used should be determined by the results of the functional assessment.

6) Participants will also learn about the three basic reinforcement contingencies that maintain challenging behaviors:

● Socially mediated positive reinforcement
● Socially mediated negative reinforcement
● Automatic reinforcement
Specific strategies will be discussed and case studies will be presented.
