Autism Society Sensory Friendly Film – Dolphin Tale- Saturday October 1st at 10am
AMC Entertainment® and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis. New DODD Division of Residential Resources
(from the DODD e-newsletter Pipeline) The DODD Division of Developmental Centers is changing its name to the Division of Residential Resources (DORR). This change is due to the expanded role of the Division, which will continue to operate Developmental Centers (DC's), and has added other key Department initiatives, including: Voluntary conversion of ICF/DD facilities; community and DC Capital projects; Health Policy initiatives; HOME Choice (Money Follows the Person grant); the Support Intensity Scale (SIS) initiative; and, the Developmental Center downsizing efforts. Medicaid Pharmacy Benefit Changes
(from the OACBHA e-newsletter) For individuals who receive health care through Ohio's Medicaid managed care plans, changes are coming on October 1, 2011 that will affect prescription drug coverage. Instead of the state paying for the prescription drugs under one statewide plan, each managed care plan will pay for them. Individuals affected will need to get prescriptions filled at pharmacies that accept the managed care plans. Read more...
Register NOW to Vote in the November General Election
In order to vote in the upcoming Ohio general election, individuals must be registered to vote at least 30 days before the election. The deadline to register for the upcoming November 8th general election is October 11, 2011. For citizens already registered, early voting begins on October 4. Read more...
Another Budget Bill on the Horizon
(from the OACBHA e-newsletter) Governor Kasich and the General Assembly just finished a budget bill this summer that was one of the most challenging the state has ever faced and contained a host of substantive policy changes. Usually, one budget every two years with perhaps some minor changes attached to a capital appropriations bill is ambitious enough for policy makers. Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Rules Available for Public Comment
On June 30, 2011, Governor Kasich signed the state budget into law and finalized the creation of the Jon Peterson Special Needs Scholarship Program. Named for special education advocate and former Representative Jon Peterson, the program will build on the success of the Autism Scholarship Program by providing a scholarship to any student with special needs who has an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
