OCALI Conference and Expo to be Held this November 16-18, 2011
Autism Society of Ohio subsidizing parent regsiatrations - three day conference only $100 for parents! The 2011 OCALI Conference and Exposition will be held November 16-18, 2011, at the Greater Columbus Convention Center (GCCC), 400 N. High Street, Columbus, Ohio 43215. OCALI’s mission is to build state- and system-wide capacity to improve outcomes for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and low-incidence disabilities through leadership, training and professional development, technical assistance, collaboration and technology. Autism Society Sensory Friendly Film – Puss in Boots- Saturday November 5th at 10am
AMC Entertainment® and the Autism Society have teamed up to bring families affected by autism a special opportunity to enjoy their favorite films in a safe and accepting environment on a monthly basis. LRS and People First invite you to attend an employment forum
People First of Ohio is holding an "Employment Call-to-Action Forum" on November 3, 2011 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. in Sidney, Ohio. The purpose of the forum is to bring advocates together to work on an action plan to create more employment opportunities, better wages and benefits for people with disabilities. Self-advocates will lead the discussions and an employment specialist from LRS will provide information and answer questions about employment rights. 'DODD Gateway' Website Launching October 31, 2011
The DODD website at www.dodd.ohio.gov will be updated October 31 with an all-new look, and more online services. On the 'DODD Gateway,' some of the existing features will change, and many new features will be added to help providers, families, and County Boards as they access information on the site. SSI, Work and Medicaid
(from Teresa L. Kobelt, MSW, LSW,Community Policy Advisor, Ohio Department of DD) One of the biggest concerns SSI beneficiaries have about going to work is the possibility of losing Medicaid coverage. Section 1619(b) of the Social Security Act provides some protection for these beneficiaries. To qualify for continuing Medicaid coverage (NOT Medicaid Buy-In, just continuing coverage), a person must: • Have been eligible for an SSI cash payment for at least 1 month; • Still meet the disability requirement; and • Still meet all other non-disability SSI requirements; and • Need Medicaid benefits to continue to work; and • Have gross earnings that are insufficient to replace SSI, Medicaid and publicly funded attendant care services. Kasich Issues Executive Order on Early Education, Development
Gov. John Kasich Friday signed an executive order creating the position of "Early Education and Development Officer" in his Office of 21st Century Education to "elevate the importance of the education of young children in the state and seek to improve kindergarten readiness results in Ohio." SELF Waiver Draft Rules under Development - Send You Feedback to ASO
Every Waiver must have Administrative Rules, which detail what services the Waiver provides and how it is to be carried out. The Proposed SELF Waiver (formerly, the "Futures Waiver", the "Self-Directed Waiver", the "Autism Waiver") has been in development for several years. The Proposal is that this waiver shall be "Self-Directed" with children having and annual budget of $25,000 and Adults having an annual budget of $40,000. Read more...
RSC Name Change Survey
As part of the Café Conversations across Ohio, RSC surveyed consumers and partners on potential names that better reflect what our agency actually does. There was wide agreement that the Rehabilitation Services Commission does not clarify the purpose we serve to help people with disabilities and does not communicate to individuals with disabilities and their families and friends that this service does exist in Ohio. Obviously it's time to change that. Based on results from the Café Conversations RSC would like help in selecting a name. Read more...
