DODD Prior Authorization Process Improvements
Towards the end of 2011, DODD and ODJFS met to consider modifications to the prior- authorization request review process for individuals on the Individual Options waiver. School to Work Transition Partnership Brewing
(from the Rehabilitative Services Commission weekly newsletter FOCUS) Note: The Autism Society of Ohio meets quarterly with Administrator Miller and this issue has been part of all of our discussions. Happy to see that this is being addressed! We had a great meeting at RSC this week with a team from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) led by state Superintendent Stan Heffner. RSC and ODE are teammates in the mission of assisting young people with an individualized education plan to a successful transition from school to work with an individualized plan of employment. This joint mission is underlined by the fact that our federal funding source, the Rehabilitation Services Administration (RSA), is an agency of the U.S. Department of Education. Read more...

RSC Searching for New Commissioners
from the RSC Weekly Focus newsletter The Rehabilitation Services Commission must have perfect attendance just to have a commission meeting. That’s because we have four of seven commissioners, just enough for a quorum. With three seats on the Rehabilitation Services Commission to fill, we are searching for candidates for appointment to our board. Commissioners are appointed by Governor Kasich and approved by the Senate to seven year terms on the RSC board. Ohio law allows one reappointment. Read more...
Looking for Family Members!
Ohio received a federal System of Care Expansion Planning grant SAMHSA to develop a strategic plan to expand services and supports for youth and young adults with mental illnesses (ages 14 - 21). Ohio's strategic plan will incorporate the plans and work done by state level committees that have focused on this population. Read more...
Adolescent sibs (12-18) needed for a focus group on Thursday, February 2, from 7-9 pm
The Nisonger Center is partnering in an extension of a project last year that asked for the perspectives of parents on the impact on their families of having children with disabilities. The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council is funding focus groups and an associated study of siblings' perspectives this year. We have been successful in recruiting adult sibs for a focus group on Monday, but we still need quite a few adolescent sibs (12-18) for a focus group on Thursday, February 2, from 7-9 pm.
