Federal Update
House approves limits to restraint and seclusion practices
The House of Representatives passed a bill Wednesday that would limit when and how school officials could restrain or seclude students. The bill, which passed by a vote of 262-153, bans the use of mechanical restraints and pepper spray, and allows restraint or seclusion only in the face of imminent danger of injury. School officials also cannot deny students water, food or bathroom access. The legislation would apply to any school that receives federal money. Similar legislation has been introduced in the Senate. Google/The Associated Press (3/3) , Disability Scoop (3/3)
