Adolescent sibs (12-18) needed for a focus group on Thursday, February 2, from 7-9 pm
The Nisonger Center is partnering in an extension of a project last year that asked for the perspectives of parents on the impact on their families of having children with disabilities. The Ohio Developmental Disabilities Council is funding focus groups and an associated study of siblings' perspectives this year. We have been successful in recruiting adult sibs for a focus group on Monday, but we still need quite a few adolescent sibs (12-18) for a focus group on Thursday, February 2, from 7-9 pm.
Looking for Family Members!
Ohio received a federal System of Care Expansion Planning grant SAMHSA to develop a strategic plan to expand services and supports for youth and young adults with mental illnesses (ages 14 - 21). Ohio's strategic plan will incorporate the plans and work done by state level committees that have focused on this population.
RSC Searching for New Commissioners
from the RSC Weekly Focus newsletter
The Rehabilitation Services Commission must have perfect attendance just to have a commission meeting. That’s because we have four of seven commissioners, just enough for a quorum. With three seats on the Rehabilitation Services Commission to fill, we are searching for candidates for appointment to our board. Commissioners are appointed by Governor Kasich and approved by the Senate to seven year terms on the RSC board. Ohio law allows one reappointment.

School to Work Transition Partnership Brewing
(from the Rehabilitative Services Commission weekly newsletter FOCUS)
Note: The Autism Society of Ohio meets quarterly with Administrator Miller and this issue has been part of all of our discussions. Happy to see that this is being addressed!
We had a great meeting at RSC this week with a team
from the Ohio Department of Education (ODE) led by
state Superintendent Stan Heffner. RSC and ODE are
teammates in the mission of assisting young people
with an individualized education plan to a successful
transition from school to work with an individualized plan
of employment. This joint mission is underlined by the
fact that our federal funding source, the Rehabilitation
Services Administration (RSA), is an agency of the U.S.
Department of Education.
