Autism Society of Ohio invites you to get involved in our Big Give for Autism (#AutismBigGive) on September 17.This is a day for you to provide real help for people and families living with autism.  Why should you get involved?  Consider these facts:

  • Every day 126 people are diagnosed with autism; that’s one person every 11 minutes.

  • Currently, there are an estimated 3.5 million people in the United States living with autism spectrum disorder.

  • People with autism and their families must navigate difficult systems, and many adults on the autism spectrum are denied basic civil rights, such as access to transportation, housing and jobs appropriate to their knowledge and skills.

For fifty years, the Autism Society has supported individuals with autism, their families, caregivers and friends as we advocate for better services and provide the latest information regarding treatment, education, research and advocacy.

By supporting the Autism Society of Ohio, you join with thousands across the country to provide much-needed support for individuals with autism and their families.

Sign up today to receive your Big Give for Autism (#AutismBigGive)(link to make the blue underlined words a hot link: https://autismbiggive.org/#sign-up) reminder email and then spread the word about the Autism Society’s giving day.  Everyone knows someone impacted by autism.  Let’s work together to enhance their lives, provide support and give dignity to those who for years have been socially isolated and overlooked.

Celebrate the Autism Society’s 50th Anniversary by getting involved in the Big Give for Autism (#AutismBigGive) on September 17.

NBC4 CONTINUES AUTISM AWARENESS CAMPAIGN

All-new edition of The Autism Puzzle to air Wednesday, April 25! NBC4 (WCMH-TV) continues to raise awareness about autism with its spring edition of The Autism Puzzle, a locally produced series of programs dealing with the complex disorder of autism. The show will air 7:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 25. Hosted by NBC4’s Jerod Smalley and Ellie Merritt, this piece of the puzzle will be a continuation of a conversation about autism research, treatments and needs of those on the autism spectrum. The special will also feature:

  • An in-depth look at the reasons for the new, startling statistics from the CDC that diagnosis is now 1 in 88 children (up 23% from 2010, and up 78% from one decade ago.)
  • A closer look at an impending change on process of diagnosing autism.
  • A local woman who helps train law enforcement officers how to work with people in the spectrum.
  • The inspiring story of a local boy whose parents were told would never speak – and is now planning his broadcast career.

NBC4 is providing a live simulcast of the program to a statewide network of television stations that include Steubenville/Wheeling’s WTOV, Zanesville’s WHIZ, Youngstown’s WFMJ and Cleveland’s WUAB cable station.

The Autism Puzzle also offers a live phone bank (614-821-4444) from 5:00-8:00 p.m. and web chat (nbc4i.com) from 5:00-8:30 p.m. staffed by experts and doctors in the field of autism. Volunteers from the Autism Society of Ohio, among others, will be working the phone bank and the web chat.  Be sure to check out the Autism Society of Ohio "commercial" during the program on our new "Neighbors" program!
