The Ohio State University
Participants Accepted Until: December 2011
Participant Criteria: Children with and without autsim spectrum disorder
The purpose of this study is to describe how children with and without autism process sensory information and how this affects behavior.
Participation in the study will involve 2 - 3 study visits at The Ohio State University. Each visit will take between 1 - 2 hours. Parents will be asked to complete questionnaires about how their child responds to touch, sound, movement and other sensations, and about their typical behavior.
During the first visit, children will play sensory games, e.g., retrieving toys from sticky putty, listening to household sounds, and we will observe their reactions to the games.
During the second visit, we will measure your child's sensory processing using an electroencephalogram (EEG) (check out our You Tube video that shows how the EEG (also know as ERP) is done in our lab:)

For the children with an Autism Spectrum Disorder, we will also complete an Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) with them. This test allows us to understand your child's specific autism symptoms.
