YOU HAD AN AMAZING YEAR!
You Participated. You Volunteered. You Donated.
Thank you for being a Friend of the Autism Society of Greater Akron!
YOU ENCOURAGED ADVENTURES
Jonathan went to Autism Awareness Day at the Derby with his parents and his brother, Joseph. You could find him standing along the side of the track, cheering every rider on to victory. He even chose what car would finish first. When you asked him if he was going to go down the hill, he quickly replied, NO. Imagine your surprise when a car arrived at the bottom of the hill with a very excited young man and his pilot. It was Jonathan! He stepped out of the car, gave high fives and said, “I did it!” Learn more HERE about Autism Awareness Day.
You raised over $90,000 so that families living in your community would have access to resources and programs to support them today! You came to Lock 3 to support your sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, clients, students and friends, and you MADE A DIFFERENCE! Hope to see you again on June 14, 2014. Learn more HERE about Autism 5k and Walk.
YOU EMPOWERED PARENTS & PROFESSIONALS
You armed teachers in 65 school districts with the tools to include students with autism in their classroom by giving them the Professional Development Kit, “You’re Going to Love This Kid!” You kept our community informed by bringing critical information to the Parent-Professional Exchange Network, such as how to keep our kids safe and managing behaviors. YOU GAVE THE GIFT OF INDEPENDENCE
Miles is a typical 8 year old boy that wanted to be able to ride a bike with his friends. His parents heard about the iCan Bike Camp you provided, and enrolled Miles in it. Here’s what they say now …
“What a life-changer! Before the camp, Miles barely went outside, but now he rides for at least an hour every day. We have so much fun riding together as a family. It brings us so much pleasure to see how he conquered this fear with the incredible help of the camp. We can't thank you, the volunteers, or team enough for this incredible blessing. He is FINALLY getting exercise and a sense of independence. He rides down the street to friends' houses to see if they want to ride with him. What a change. We went on vacation and he biked everywhere. Wow, we are so blessed and thank God for your work on this!” Learn more HERE about the iCan Bike Camp.
